The owners (Kylie & Felix) may not be rabid environmentalists, but we do try to do our bit, and live, shop & consume in a responsible environmental way. And we do this whilst not forgetting our absolute focus of delighting the guests that choose to stay in our wee cottage.
The farm has a large solar panel array, which provides most of the electricity used on site; the excess electricity is either stored in batteries or exported to the grid. Being rural & remote we have to be fairly self sufficient, we source our own water from an onsite spring/well and have an onsite septic system. We recycle paper, cardboard , plastic drink & food containers, aluminum cans, metal food cans & glass bottles, all of which we take to the Murchison recycle & waste depot.
The flower gardens are grown under organic principles to encourage soil health. Kylie is a keen flower gardener and florist who enjoys using her own farm grown flowers.
We really try to source New Zealand made goods as much as possible, in line with this the carpet in the cottage is made with 100% Kiwi wool, as are the wool duvets. The beds are also made in New Zealand. The wooden furniture in the cottage is almost exclusively made from certified recycled timber.
We aim to make your stay as comfortable as possible, while being environmentally responsible wherever we can, without compromising guest enjoyment & comfort.
We'd like to think that our Murchison accommodation option treads lightly on the environment.
